All your skip questions answered
These are the questions we most frequently get asked by our customers, if you have one that isn't here please call us today!

  • What can I put in a general waste skip?

General waste skips are used for the removal of non-hazardous waste such as building debris, household items, green waste etc. If you need to dispose of hazardous waste you require special permits and containers. It’s illegal to mix hazardous waste with non-hazardous waste.

You cannot dispose of plasterboard in a general waste skip.

  • Is my skip too full?

All skips must be level loads, with no waste loaded above the sides of the skip. If a skip is overloaded the collection or exchange can be refused and you may be charged.

  • How much access does a skip lorry require?

Our lorries require a minimum 2.75m (9 ft) wide gap to unload our skips.

  • When can you deliver a skip?

We operate from Monday to Friday from 7:00 to 16:30, and on Saturdays from 07:30 to midday.

  • Do I need to be at the location to receive the skip?

As long as you have paid for your skip and our lorry has clear access, you don’t need to be at your property for delivery or collection. If you have any specific requirements for where you would like the skip to be placed, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

  • How long can I keep the skip for?

You can keep the skip for a maximum of two weeks.

  • Do I need a skip permit?

Any skip placed on a public highway requires a permit from the council. The Waste Group will arrange this for you, along with the skip-lighting required by government regulations.

  • Is my waste recycled?

All of your waste goes through our waste recycling centre in Wareham, where we’re proud to divert 90% of all waste from landfill. For more information please see our environmental policy page.

  • Why can't I put certain items in my skip?

Some items are harder to dispose of than others. These are classed as difficult or hazardous wastes. We’re happy for you to put these in our skips; however, additional charges will apply.
