Asbestos disposal across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch
The BCP conurbation has a significant stock of pre-1980s housing — Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Winton, Charminster and Boscombe, inter-war and post-war properties across Moordown, Parkstone, Canford Heath and Bearwood, and older coastal properties throughout Southbourne, Mudeford and Sandbanks. Garage roofs, soffits, flue pipes, Artex ceilings, pipe lagging and old boilers in these properties commonly contain asbestos that needs safe, legal disposal.
The Waste Group is based in Wareham, just 20 miles from central Bournemouth, and provides licensed asbestos disposal across the full BH postcode range. Depending on the quantity of asbestos, you can book van collection for small domestic jobs, an asbestos skip for medium-sized jobs, or a RoRo container for larger commercial clearances. Every booking includes the Waste Consignment Note and Duty of Care paperwork required for legal disposal.
Do you need asbestos removal or asbestos disposal?
These are two different services and the difference matters:
- Asbestos removal means stripping asbestos out of a building. For most asbestos types this must be done by an HSE-licensed removal contractor. We do not provide this service.
- Asbestos disposal means taking away asbestos that has already been removed, bagged or wrapped. This is what we do.
If you have loose garage roof sheets, broken ceiling tiles, bags of material from a roofer, or an old boiler flue that has already been taken out — you need disposal. Call us on 01202 247716.
If the asbestos is still attached to the building and needs stripping out, you will need a licensed removal contractor first. We can then dispose of what they bag. If you are not sure which service you need, call us and we will help you work it out.
Asbestos skip hire in Bournemouth
Asbestos skip hire is the right choice for medium-sized jobs — tradespeople clearing a domestic project, commercial property owners, landlords working through multiple garages, or builders on a BCP-area extension or conversion. Asbestos skips are supplied sealed and compliant with hazardous waste regulations, and are collected directly for licensed disposal.
We supply three asbestos skip sizes across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch:
- 6 yard open asbestos skip — suitable for small to medium loads such as a single garage roof strip or a boiler room clearance.
- 12 yard open asbestos skip — for larger domestic clearances or a small commercial job.
- 16 yard enclosed asbestos skip — fully enclosed and recommended where visible containment is required, for example on roadside jobs or commercial sites.
All skip sizes include 2 tonnes of asbestos waste. Additional tonnage is charged at the rate shown below. The BCP area falls within our Zone 5 pricing area.
Asbestos skip hire Bournemouth — prices
| Skip size | Includes | Price (ex VAT) |
|---|---|---|
| 6 yard open | Up to 2 tonnes | £2,240 |
| 12 yard open | Up to 2 tonnes | £2,240 |
| 16 yard enclosed | Up to 2 tonnes | £2,240 |
| Excess tonnage | Per tonne | £411 |
| Admin fee | Per booking | £50 |
All prices exclude VAT. Waiting time over 30 minutes and out-of-hours call-out charges apply in line with our standard terms. For narrow residential streets across Westbourne, Parkstone or Boscombe, confirm drop-off access at the time of booking.

Asbestos RoRo hire in Bournemouth
Roll-on roll-off containers are the right choice for larger asbestos clearances — demolition projects, multi-property landlord clearances, industrial sites across Nuffield, Holton Heath and Ferndown, or full commercial building strip-outs. RoRos need good vehicle access, so they are ideal for industrial estates and yards rather than narrow residential streets.
We supply three asbestos RoRo sizes across the BCP area:
- 20 yard open RoRo — for medium-to-large loads where an open-top container works on site.
- 40 yard open RoRo — for the largest commercial and demolition jobs.
- 35 yard enclosed RoRo — fully enclosed, required for some site permits and highly recommended for any job where visible containment matters.
All RoRo sizes include 3 tonnes of asbestos waste. Additional tonnage is charged as shown. The BCP area falls within Zone 5.
Asbestos RoRo hire Bournemouth — prices

Asbestos van collection for Bournemouth homeowners
Van collection is the right option for smaller domestic jobs — a couple of garage roof sheets, an old Artex ceiling stash, a removed boiler flue, or a few bags left by a roofer. You package the asbestos to specification, we send a van to Bournemouth, our driver loads it, and you receive your Waste Consignment Note.
BCP residents do have Millhams HWRC as an option for small quantities of bonded asbestos. Van collection makes sense when you have more asbestos than the Millhams weekly allowance, non-bonded asbestos types that Millhams won’t take, waste from a rental or commercial property, or when you simply don’t want to transport hazardous material in your own vehicle. See our Millhams comparison further down this page.
How it works
- Package the asbestos. Whole sheets (max 6ft × 3ft, up to 25kg each) wrapped in 1000-gauge polythene. Smaller pieces double-bagged in red asbestos bags, max 15kg per bag.
- Book the collection. Call us on 01202 247716 with your item count and postcode. We will confirm a collection day, usually within 3 to 5 working days.
- Driver collects. Our driver arrives, loads the material, and issues your Waste Consignment Note on the spot.
- Licensed disposal. The asbestos is transported under ADR regulations to a licensed hazardous waste facility.
Asbestos van collection Bournemouth — prices
| Item | Price (ex VAT) |
|---|---|
| Transport charge | £353 |
| Per bag (10–15 kg) | £11.05 |
| Per sheet or wrap (20–25 kg) | £22.35 |
| Per door or boiler (30 kg) | £46.10 |
| Consignment note | £50 |
Typical Bournemouth van collection costs
To give you a realistic sense of what a job costs:
- Small garage roof — 10 cement sheets already wrapped: £353 transport + (10 × £22.35) + £50 consignment note = £626.50 ex VAT
- Old boiler flue and 4 bags of Artex rubble: £353 + £46.10 + (4 × £11.05) + £50 = £493.30 ex VAT
- Large double garage roof — 20 sheets wrapped: £353 + (20 × £22.35) + £50 = £850 ex VAT
All prices exclude VAT. Waste that exceeds standard item weights is subject to additional charges. If the total load exceeds 1 tonne, a second collection may be required.

How to prepare asbestos safely for collection
Whether you are hiring a skip, a RoRo or booking a van collection, asbestos must be packaged correctly before our driver arrives. This protects you, our driver, and anyone handling the waste at the disposal facility.
- Do not break sheets or sand surfaces — keep all material as intact as possible. Broken edges release fibres.
- Wrap whole sheets in 1000-gauge polythene. Standard sheets are 6ft × 3ft and up to 25kg each.
- Double-bag smaller pieces in red asbestos bags. Bags must not exceed 15kg.
- Label clearly with asbestos warning markings on bags and wrapped sheets.
- Dampen material lightly with water to reduce dust. Do not soak it.
- Wear proper PPE — disposable coveralls, FFP3 mask, gloves, goggles. Dispose of used PPE with the asbestos in a sealed bag.
- If you are not confident handling it, hire a licensed removal contractor. We will dispose of what they bag.
For detailed guidance on safe handling, see the HSE asbestos essentials guide.
Fully licensed disposal with full Duty of Care paperwork
The Waste Group’s asbestos disposal service is fulfilled through our national disposal partner — a market-leading asbestos waste specialist operating since 2000, with the largest asbestos waste transfer station in the South East of England. Every Bournemouth collection runs through accredited infrastructure and qualified drivers.
Every asbestos booking includes the legal paperwork required to prove your asbestos has been disposed of lawfully:
- Waste Consignment Note (HWCN) — legally required for all hazardous waste movement. Issued on collection.
- Licensed waste carrier — our disposal partner holds full Environment Agency waste carrier registration.
- ADR-regulated transport — asbestos is moved under dangerous goods regulations by ADR-qualified drivers.
- Licensed hazardous waste facility — asbestos is taken to a permitted asbestos waste transfer station, then to licensed landfill cells. Final disposal certificate available on request.
- Industry accreditations — our disposal partner is ARCA-accredited, FORS Silver certified, and an ESA and NFDC member.
- Record-keeping — we keep all consignment notes for the minimum three-year period required by law.
- Both cement-bonded and fibrous asbestos accepted — including AIB, pipe lagging, Artex, boiler insulation and contaminated soil, not just cement sheets.
Can Millhams HWRC take your asbestos?
Unlike some neighbouring councils, BCP Council does accept asbestos at its Household Recycling Centres. Millhams in Kinson and Christchurch Recycling Centre both accept bonded (cement-bonded) asbestos from BCP residents, within a weekly free allowance. For many small domestic jobs Millhams is a perfectly sensible option — it is worth understanding what it will and will not accept before deciding.
What Millhams HWRC will accept
- Bonded (cement-bonded) asbestos only — no other asbestos types
- Weekly free allowance of up to 2 × 50-litre bags of DIY waste (including asbestos), OR one large item up to 200cm × 75cm per household per week
- Asbestos must be double-wrapped in tough plastic and completely sealed
- BCP Council residency required — proof of address on arrival
- Over the free allowance: £21 per sheet or £10.50 per bag
- Van permit required for Bournemouth or Poole residents visiting with a van
When you will need a licensed collection instead
- You have more than the weekly free allowance worth of asbestos, and paying £21 per sheet at Millhams adds up fast — a 20-sheet garage roof over allowance would be £420 at the HWRC before you’ve accounted for transporting it yourself
- You have non-bonded asbestos — pipe lagging, AIB, Artex, boiler insulation, floor tiles. Millhams will not accept these
- The waste is from commercial property, a rental you let out, or any income-generating work — Millhams explicitly excludes this
- You live outside BCP Council area — Dorset Council residents in nearby areas like Wimborne or Verwood have limited access
- You don’t want to transport hazardous waste to Kinson in your own vehicle, especially from Christchurch, Southbourne or Sandbanks where the drive to Millhams is 20 to 30 minutes with asbestos in the car
- You don’t have a van permit and would need one to transport the asbestos

No. Asbestos is hazardous waste and must never be mixed with general waste. If asbestos is found in a standard skip, the whole skip is treated as hazardous and disposed of at hazardous waste rates — far more expensive than booking an asbestos skip from the start. Use a dedicated asbestos skip or van collection.
No. Millhams only accepts bonded (cement-bonded) asbestos. Non-bonded asbestos types — including Artex ceilings, pipe lagging, asbestos insulating board (AIB), boiler insulation, floor tiles and sprayed coatings — cannot be taken to any BCP Council recycling centre. If you have these materials, you need a licensed collection. We accept all asbestos types. Call 01202 247716 for a quote.
Householders do not need a waste carrier licence to dispose of asbestos from their own property, but the disposal itself must go through a licensed carrier and must be accompanied by a Waste Consignment Note. We handle all the paperwork as part of every booking.
Most van collections in Bournemouth can be booked within 3 to 5 working days. Skip and RoRo deliveries typically take 2 to 3 working days from booking. Call 01202 247716 to check current availability.
