Asbestos Disposal Shaftesbury
Licensed asbestos disposal across Shaftesbury, Motcombe, Fontmell Magna and the SP7 area. Skip hire, RoRo and van collection with transparent pricing and full Duty of Care paperwork.
Asbestos disposal across Shaftesbury and North Dorset
Shaftesbury and the surrounding North Dorset villages mix older stone properties around the hilltop town — Gold Hill included — with post-war estates, plus farm buildings, garages and outbuildings across the Blackmore Vale put up when asbestos cement was standard. Garage roofs, soffits, flue pipes, Artex ceilings, pipe lagging and old boilers in these properties commonly contain asbestos that needs safe, legal disposal.
The Waste Group is based in Wareham, around 13 miles from Shaftesbury, with a second depot at Shaftesbury/Longham,, and provides licensed asbestos disposal across SP7 and the wider North Dorset area. Depending on the quantity of asbestos, you can book van collection for small domestic jobs, an asbestos skip for medium-sized jobs, or a RoRo container for larger commercial clearances. Every booking includes the Waste Consignment Note and Duty of Care paperwork required for legal disposal.
Do you need asbestos removal or asbestos disposal?
These are two different services and the difference matters:
- Asbestos removal means stripping asbestos out of a building. For most asbestos types this must be done by an HSE-licensed removal contractor. We do not provide this service.
- Asbestos disposal means taking away asbestos that has already been removed, bagged or wrapped. This is what we do.
If you have loose garage roof sheets, broken ceiling tiles, bags of material from a roofer, or an old boiler flue that has already been taken out — you need disposal. Call us on 01202 247716.
If the asbestos is still attached to the building and needs stripping out, you will need a licensed removal contractor first. We can then dispose of what they bag. If you are not sure which service you need, call us and we will help you work it out.
Asbestos skip hire in Shaftesbury
Asbestos skip hire is the right choice for medium-sized jobs — tradespeople clearing a domestic project, commercial property owners, landlords working through multiple garages, or builders on a North Dorset extension or conversion. Asbestos skips are supplied sealed and compliant with hazardous waste regulations, and are collected directly for licensed disposal.
We supply three asbestos skip sizes across Shaftesbury and North Dorset:
- 6 yard open asbestos skip — suitable for small to medium loads such as a single garage roof strip or a boiler room clearance.
- 12 yard open asbestos skip — for larger domestic clearances or a small commercial job.
- 16 yard enclosed asbestos skip — fully enclosed and recommended where visible containment is required, for example on roadside jobs or commercial sites.
All skip sizes include 2 tonnes of asbestos waste. Additional tonnage is charged at the rate shown below. The Shaftesbury area falls within our Zone 5 pricing area.
Asbestos skip hire Shaftesbury — prices
| Skip size | Includes | Price (inc VAT) |
|---|---|---|
| 6 yard open | Up to 2 tonnes | £2,240 |
| 12 yard open | Up to 2 tonnes | £2,240 |
| 16 yard enclosed | Up to 2 tonnes | £2,240 |
| Excess tonnage | Per tonne | £411 |
| Admin fee | Per booking | £50 |
All prices include VAT. Waiting time over 30 minutes and out-of-hours call-out charges apply in line with our standard terms. For the narrow streets of Shaftesbury’s hilltop old town, confirm drop-off access at the time of booking.

Asbestos RoRo hire in Shaftesbury
Roll-on roll-off containers are the right choice for larger asbestos clearances — demolition projects, multi-property landlord clearances, industrial and commercial sites around Wincombe Business Park and Longmead, or full commercial building strip-outs. RoRos need good vehicle access, so they are ideal for industrial estates and yards rather than narrow residential streets.
We supply three asbestos RoRo sizes across the Shaftesbury area:
- 20 yard open RoRo — for medium-to-large loads where an open-top container works on site.
- 40 yard open RoRo — for the largest commercial and demolition jobs.
- 35 yard enclosed RoRo — fully enclosed, required for some site permits and highly recommended for any job where visible containment matters.
All RoRo sizes include 3 tonnes of asbestos waste. Additional tonnage is charged as shown. The Shaftesbury area falls within Zone 5.
Asbestos RoRo hire Shaftesbury — prices

Asbestos van collection for Shaftesbury homeowners
Van collection is the right option for smaller domestic jobs — a couple of garage roof sheets, an old Artex ceiling stash, a removed boiler flue, or a few bags left by a roofer. You package the asbestos to specification, we send a van to Shaftesbury, our driver loads it, and you receive your Waste Consignment Note.
Shaftesbury residents have no nearby tip that accepts asbestos — Dorset Council only takes small, pre-booked DIY quantities of bonded asbestos at Blandford, Wareham and Weymouth, all around 13 miles away. Van collection makes sense when you have more than that small allowance, non-bonded asbestos types the tips won’t take, waste from a rental or commercial property, or when you simply don’t want to transport hazardous material in your own vehicle. See the recycling-centre comparison further down this page.
How it works
- Package the asbestos. Whole sheets (max 6ft × 3ft, up to 25kg each) wrapped in 1000-gauge polythene. Smaller pieces double-bagged in red asbestos bags, max 15kg per bag.
- Book the collection. Call us on 01202 247716 with your item count and postcode. We will confirm a collection day, usually within 3 to 5 working days.
- Driver collects. Our driver arrives, loads the material, and issues your Waste Consignment Note on the spot.
- Licensed disposal. The asbestos is transported under ADR regulations to a licensed hazardous waste facility.
Asbestos van collection Shaftesbury — prices
| Item | Price (inc VAT) |
|---|---|
| Transport charge | £353 |
| Per bag (10–15 kg) | £11.05 |
| Per sheet or wrap (20–25 kg) | £22.35 |
| Per door or boiler (30 kg) | £46.10 |
| Consignment note | £50 |
Typical Shaftesbury van collection costs
To give you a realistic sense of what a job costs:
- Small garage roof — 10 cement sheets already wrapped: £353 transport + (10 × £22.35) + £50 consignment note = £626.50 inc VAT
- Old boiler flue and 4 bags of Artex rubble: £353 + £46.10 + (4 × £11.05) + £50 = £493.30 inc VAT
- Large double garage roof — 20 sheets wrapped: £353 + (20 × £22.35) + £50 = £850 inc VAT
All prices include VAT. Waste that exceeds standard item weights is subject to additional charges. If the total load exceeds 1 tonne, a second collection may be required.

Fully licensed disposal with full Duty of Care paperwork
The Waste Group’s asbestos disposal service is fulfilled through our national disposal partner — a market-leading asbestos waste specialist operating since 2000, with the largest asbestos waste transfer station in the South East of England. Every Shaftesbury collection runs through accredited infrastructure and qualified drivers.
Every asbestos booking includes the legal paperwork required to prove your asbestos has been disposed of lawfully:
- Waste Consignment Note (HWCN) — legally required for all hazardous waste movement. Issued on collection.
- Licensed waste carrier — our disposal partner holds full Environment Agency waste carrier registration.
- ADR-regulated transport — asbestos is moved under dangerous goods regulations by ADR-qualified drivers.
- Licensed hazardous waste facility — asbestos is taken to a permitted asbestos waste transfer station, then to licensed landfill cells. Final disposal certificate available on request.
- Industry accreditations — our disposal partner is ARCA-accredited, FORS Silver certified, and an ESA and NFDC member.
- Record-keeping — we keep all consignment notes for the minimum three-year period required by law.
- Both cement-bonded and fibrous asbestos accepted — including AIB, pipe lagging, Artex, boiler insulation and contaminated soil, not just cement sheets.
Can a Dorset Council recycling centre take your asbestos?
Shaftesbury is in the Dorset Council area, and Dorset Council accepts only cement-bonded asbestos, and only at three sites — Blandford, Wareham and Weymouth. The nearest to Shaftesbury is Blandford, around 12 miles away — Shaftesbury’s own recycling centre at Wincombe does not accept asbestos. For a small DIY job a pre-booked trip may suit, so it is worth understanding what the sites will and will not accept before deciding.
What the Dorset Council sites will accept
- Bonded (cement-bonded) asbestos only — no other asbestos types
- Small DIY quantities only — sheets no larger than roughly 6ft × 4ft (183cm × 122cm)
- You must pre-book an asbestos slot online before arriving
- Asbestos must be double-bagged or double-wrapped, sealed and clearly labelled
- Available at Blandford, Wareham and Weymouth only
- Large-scale works — such as a full asbestos roof — are not accepted
When you will need a licensed collection instead
- You have more than a small DIY amount — a full garage roof or multiple sheets is beyond what the tips will take
- You have non-bonded asbestos (Artex, pipe lagging, AIB, floor tiles) — not accepted at any Dorset Council site
- The waste is from a rental, commercial or business property — household sites cannot accept it
- You do not want to transport hazardous material 13+ miles in your own vehicle
Asbestos disposal Shaftesbury — frequently asked questions
How much does asbestos disposal cost in Shaftesbury?
Shaftesbury falls within our Zone 5 pricing area. Van collection starts at £353 transport plus £22.35 per sheet or £11.05 per bag. An asbestos skip (6, 12 or 16 yard) is £2,240 inc VAT including up to 2 tonnes. An asbestos RoRo (20, 35 or 40 yard) is £2,650 inc VAT including up to 3 tonnes. All prices include VAT. Call 01202 247716 for a firm quote.
Can I take asbestos to a Dorset Council recycling centre near Shaftesbury?
As a Shaftesbury resident you fall under Dorset Council, which only accepts cement-bonded asbestos at its Blandford, Wareham and Weymouth recycling centres — the nearest to Shaftesbury being Blandford, around 12 miles away. It must be pre-booked online, double-bagged and clearly labelled, and is limited to small DIY quantities (sheets no larger than roughly 6ft × 4ft). Non-bonded asbestos (Artex, pipe lagging, AIB) is not accepted at all. For anything more than a small DIY amount, non-bonded types, or commercial waste, you will need a licensed collection. Call us on 01202 247716.
Can I put asbestos in a regular skip?
No. Asbestos is hazardous waste and must never be mixed with general waste. If asbestos is found in a standard skip, the whole skip is treated as hazardous and disposed of at hazardous waste rates — far more expensive than booking an asbestos skip from the start. Use a dedicated asbestos skip or van collection.
Do Dorset Council sites accept Artex or pipe lagging?
No. Dorset Council recycling centres only accept bonded (cement-bonded) asbestos, and only at Blandford, Wareham and Weymouth. Non-bonded asbestos types — including Artex ceilings, pipe lagging, asbestos insulating board (AIB), boiler insulation, floor tiles and sprayed coatings — cannot be taken to any Dorset Council recycling centre. If you have these materials, you need a licensed collection. We accept all asbestos types. Call 01202 247716 for a quote.
Do I need a licence to dispose of asbestos from my own home?
Householders do not need a waste carrier licence to dispose of asbestos from their own property, but the disposal itself must go through a licensed carrier and must be accompanied by a Waste Consignment Note. We handle all the paperwork as part of every booking.
How quickly can you collect asbestos in Shaftesbury?
Most van collections in Shaftesbury can be booked within 3 to 5 working days. Skip and RoRo deliveries typically take 2 to 3 working days from booking. Call 01202 247716 to check current availability.
