If you have a garage roof, a few cement sheets or an old flue to get rid of, there are two ways to dispose of it legally: we send a van to collect it, or we deliver an asbestos skip. They are priced very differently, and the right one depends almost entirely on how much you have.

First: is it the kind a skip or van can take?
Both services take bonded (non-friable) asbestos only. That means asbestos cement products where the fibres are locked into a hard material:
- corrugated cement roofing sheets
- garage and shed roof panels
- soffit and fascia boards
- cement fence panels
- flue pipes
- floor tiles with bitumen backing
- water tank panels
Friable asbestos is different. Pipe and boiler lagging, sprayed coatings, insulation board and loose fill cannot go in a skip or in the van. We do not remove it. A licensed contractor has to take it out first, and we can then arrange the disposal of what they remove.
How van collection works
A van visits, collects the wrapped asbestos and takes it to a licensed site. You pay a transport charge for the visit, then a rate per item: £11.30 for a bag (10–15 kg), £23.55 for a sheet or wrap (20–25 kg) and £48.50 for a door or boiler (30 kg). For the transport charge, use our asbestos quote form so you see the current figure for your postcode.
Van collection suits small jobs: a few sheets, a shed roof, a single flue, a bag of floor tiles. You pay for what you have, and nothing sits on your driveway.
How asbestos skip hire works
We arrange a skip through an ARCA-accredited partner and it is delivered to site. Prices on our asbestos skip hire page start from £2,240 inc VAT in Dorset and the South West, and include 2 tonnes. The hire period is 28 days. A hazardous waste consignment note is completed on site (£57.60) and you keep a copy.
Containers come as 6 and 12 yard open skips, or a 16 yard enclosed skip. Whole, wrapped sheets can go in an open skip. Broken or unwrapped material needs an enclosed skip. A standard skip with a sheet thrown over it is not permitted.
Two tonnes is a lot of asbestos cement, roughly 80 to 100 wrapped sheets at 20–25 kg each. That is the point: a skip is for a big job, a farm building, a large industrial roof, a site with a lot of sheet over several days.
Which one do you need?
| Van collection | Asbestos skip | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | A few sheets, one small roof, a flue, bags of tiles | A large roof, farm or industrial building, a multi-day clearance |
| You pay | Transport + a rate per item | From £2,240 inc VAT, 2 tonnes included |
| Time on site | One visit | 28 days |
| Paperwork | Handled with the collection | Consignment note £57.60 |
| Typical choice for a domestic garage | Yes | Rarely |
The rule of thumb: work out roughly how many sheets or items you have. If the per-item charges plus transport come anywhere near the price of a skip, the skip is the better value. For most householders it never does, and van collection is the cheaper route. Ask us for both prices and compare.
You wrap it, we don’t
On every service, you bag and wrap the asbestos. We do not wrap it for you. For sheets: wrap each as a parcel, double-bag in a red UN-approved inner bag and a clear outer bag, dampen it, and do not use power tools. Wrapping is also what keeps the fibres contained, so it is the part of the job that matters most.
Never mix it
Asbestos and general rubble must not be mixed. Keep asbestos separate from everything else on site, and do not put general waste in with it.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest way to dispose of a small amount of asbestos?
Van collection. For a few sheets or bags you pay the transport charge plus a small per-item rate, far below the cost of a skip.
How much asbestos fits in an asbestos skip?
The price includes 2 tonnes, roughly 80 to 100 wrapped cement sheets. The maximum weight is 5 tonnes; weight above 2 tonnes is charged by the tonne.
Do you wrap the asbestos for me?
No. You bag and wrap it on every service. We tell you exactly how, and the consignment note is completed on site.
What happens if I wrap it wrongly?
Asbestos that is not wrapped properly is a safety risk and may not be accepted for collection. Follow the wrapping steps above, or ask us before the job.
Do I need a licence to handle bonded asbestos?
Not for bonded asbestos cement if you are competent to handle it safely. Friable asbestos is different and needs a licensed contractor.
Can you remove the asbestos from my roof?
We do not remove asbestos. We arrange disposal once it is down and wrapped. For removal, use a licensed or competent contractor.
What paperwork do I get?
A hazardous waste consignment note is completed on site and you keep a copy. We keep our records for three years.
What if the job runs over 28 days?
Extra days are charged at £11.52 a day, so tell us early if you expect delays and we will advise.
